Essay
Today, from small children to grandparents, almost everyone has a mobile phone in hand. The phone that was once used only for talking has now become a camera, a watch, a calculator, a map, a notebook and a library all in one. That is why many people today ask: "Is the mobile phone a curse or a boon?"
The benefits of the mobile phone are countless. We can talk to relatives who live far away in an instant and even see them on a video call. Students easily get online lessons, educational videos, dictionaries and practice questions. Banking, paying bills and booking tickets can all be done from home. Farmers can learn the weather forecast and market prices. In an accident or illness, a mobile phone lets us call for help immediately. In this sense, the mobile phone truly is a boon of science.
But every coin has two sides. Overusing the mobile phone creates many problems. Playing games, watching videos or spending hours on social media makes us neglect our studies. Staring at a screen constantly strains the eyes, causes headaches and reduces sleep. With fewer outdoor games, the body gets less exercise. Even when the whole family is at home together, everyone is lost in their own phone, so family conversations decrease.
There are also dangers such as online fraud, fake news and harassment by strangers. We should never share our personal details, passwords or OTPs with anyone. We should not believe and forward every message we receive. Such care is essential while using a mobile phone.
From a student's point of view, the effect of the mobile phone is even clearer. On one hand, videos that explain difficult topics, practice questions and dictionaries make studying easier. On the other hand, constant notification sounds while studying break our attention. If we check a message in the middle of reading a lesson, it takes time to focus again. So keeping the phone on silent, or in another room, while studying is a good habit. If we pick up the mobile to study, we should study – that rule should be followed.
So what should we do about the mobile phone? A mobile phone in itself is neither good nor bad; everything depends on how we use it. We should use it for studies and necessary work. We should fix a time limit for using it. We should keep it aside while eating and before sleeping. Every day, we should give some time to outdoor games, reading and talking with our family. Young children should use the mobile only under their parents' supervision.
Fire is useful for cooking, but used carelessly it can burn a house down; the mobile phone is just the same. The mobile should be our servant, not our master. If we use it wisely and within limits, it will surely be a boon; otherwise the same phone can become a curse. The choice is in our hands.
