Essay
Grandmother always says, "When we were young, the rain came on time and summer was not so harsh." Today, however, summers are getting hotter, the timetable of the rains has gone wrong, and we see floods at one time and droughts at another. Behind all these changes lies one big reason – global warming.
Global warming is the rise in the Earth's average temperature over a long period. The atmosphere around the Earth works like a blanket. Gases such as carbon dioxide and methane trap the sun's heat close to the Earth. This is called the greenhouse effect. In the right amount, this effect is necessary for life; but when the amount of these gases increases, the blanket becomes thicker and the Earth starts to heat up more.
Human activities are mainly responsible for this rise. Fuels like coal, petrol and diesel are used on a huge scale for vehicles, factories and electricity generation. This releases large amounts of carbon dioxide into the air. Forests, which absorb carbon dioxide, are being cut down in the name of development. Burning garbage, overusing plastic and wasting energy make the problem even more serious.
Its effects are now visible all over the world. The ice in the polar regions and the glaciers on mountains are melting. As a result, the sea level is rising, and coastal villages and cities may be in danger. Heat waves, unseasonal rain, hailstorms, cloudbursts and droughts have become more frequent.
Since farming depends on rain, the farmer is hit hardest by climate change. Crop yields fall. Rising heat increases heatstroke, water shortages and the spread of some diseases. Many animals, birds and plants cannot adjust to the changing climate, so biodiversity is in danger.
Though the problem is big, the solutions are in our hands. At the personal level, we can use electricity and water carefully and switch off lights and fans when they are not needed. Walking or cycling for short distances, using public transport, avoiding plastic and carrying a cloth bag – these small habits bring about a big change. If everyone plants a tree on a birthday or a special occasion and takes care of it, greenery will grow. At the level of society and government, we need to increase the use of renewable energy sources like solar and wind power, protect forests and manage waste properly. This problem belongs not to one country but to the whole world, so all countries must come together and make efforts.
The Earth is our only home; we have no other planet like it. We received this Earth as an inheritance from our ancestors, and it is our duty to hand it over safely to the next generation in the same way. Only if we change today will tomorrow's world stay beautiful.

- Global warming is the rise in the Earth's average temperature.
- More carbon dioxide in the air makes the Earth hotter.
- Heavy use of fuels and cutting of forests are the main causes.
- Because of it, glaciers are melting.
- The sea level has started to rise.
- Heat waves and unseasonal rain have increased.
- Farmers suffer the most from it.
- We should use electricity, water and fuel carefully.
- Everyone should plant trees and take care of them.
- The Earth is our only home, and we must protect it.
Writing tips
- Explain the idea of the "greenhouse effect" in simple language, like the example of a blanket.
- Write causes, effects and solutions in separate paragraphs; in the solutions, be sure to write "what I myself can do".
- Do not write figures or exact degrees Celsius you are not sure of; give only general, reliable information.
- Use a line of your own, for example: "A tree planted today is a love letter written to tomorrow's generation."
